Two men and a woman arrested in guns raid

Three people have been arrested as part a crackdown on the possession of guns. Officers from Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) specialist firearms team executed a warrant in Oldham this morning (Wednesday) as part of a joint operation with the National Crime Agency (NCA).

Following the swoop, two men and a woman were arrested on suspicion of the possession of firearms.

Also recovered at the unidentified location in Chadderton were firearms parts and powder thought to be used for the illicit manufacturing and reactivating of guns and ammunition.

Speaking afterwards, Detective Inspector Simon Akker, from GMP’s Serious and Organised Crime Unit said: “These arrests have come from a joint investigation into the possession of illicit firearms in the Greater Manchester area.

“We readily use the intelligence available to actively disrupt organised criminal behaviour. GMP and the NCA are committed to driving out the manufacturing and subsequent possession of firearms.

“Today’s activity will remove a number of lethal firearms from the streets of Greater Manchester.”

“We are determined to target and disrupt organised crime groups and pursue those involve in firearms offences to recover these weapons that will undoubtedly be used for criminality to ensure our communities are safe.”
