Conmen stole more than £2,000 from a pensioner after tricking their way into his Oldham home.
The three men told the 83-year-old there had a been a flood next door, before going upstairs and stealing a wallet containing the cash.
Police say the thieves are white and spoke with Irish accents. The theft took place at a house in South Chadderton at 6.30pm on Thursday.
A post on the GMP Royton & Shaw Facebook page said: “The Neighbourhood Teams in Oldham were appalled to read this incident on our morning briefing and wanted to make you all aware.
“Unfortunately these unscrupulous individuals may appear convincing and can be very persuasive.
“If you are in any doubt please keep them out.”
Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
