This year Empathy Day is on the 9th June 2022 and the theme is, Empathy – our human superpower.
Here at Gallery Oldham and Oldham Libraries we are asking local schools, businesses and people to work together to share their messages of empathy and we would love for you to take part.
Using strips of A4 paper (cut lengthways) we invite you to write a message of empathy and support for yourself, a friend, a neighbour, their community or the world! Don’t forget to design and decorate the paper strip. We would love to see your creative side pop with these.
These strips will then be added to our community paper chain and displayed in the library to share the message that empathy can save the world! We will also be sharing these messages throughout the day on social media.

Once your strips are complete you can drop them at your local library. There is also a downloadable families activity pack to help you to explore Empathy with all ages.
Alongside this local activity EmpathyLab will feature an online festival with a wonderful range of authors and illustrators including Rob Biddulph, Cressida Cowell, Michael Morpurgo, Abigail Balfe, Elle McNicoll, Tom Percival, Lemm Sissay, Rosie Jones and many many more.
In the run up to Empathy Day have a look at the Empathy Superpower Challenge. Complete 3 activities for a downloadable badge and 9 activities to download your superpower challenge signed by Michael Rosen. On Empathy Day itself authors will be demonstrating how they took part in the challenge.
Thank you for your support we look forward to reading all you wonderful messages of empathy – our human superpower!
