
Police closed off a busy road over concerns about a ‘man on a roof’ in Failsworth.
Officers were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the roof of a property on Ashton Road West shortly before 12.55pm.
The road was taped off between Partington Street and Clive Road.
Images from the scene showed a man, who appeared to be ‘holding a hammer’ on a roof.
He remained on the roof for several hours, but the road has since reopened.
Drivers were urged to stay away from the area while bus services were also affected.
In a statement issued this afternoon, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “At around 12.54pm this afternoon (December 27) police were called to reports of concern for the welfare of a man on the roof of a property on Ashton Road West, Failsworth.
“Officers attended and remain at the scene.
“Road closures are in place in the area.”
A spokesperson for GMFRS added : “At 12.58pm on Monday (December 27) two fire engines from Hollins, Chadderton and the turntable ladder from Manchester Central responded to a call concerning the welfare of an individual on Ashton Road West, Failsworth.
“Firefighters are currently in attendance and are supporting Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service to resolve the incident.”
