Arrest after Mercedes ‘driven at grossly excessive speed later reversed into police car’ in Oldham

A man has been taken into custody in Greater Manchester after a Mercedes was involved in a collision with a police car. The vehicle had allegedly failed to stop for officers.

Police from Greater Manchester Police Traffic say that they attempted to stop the Mercedes in Oldham – but instead officers say it raced off at what they described as “grossly excessive speed”.

Officers say they gave chase and said that when the vehicle failed to shake them off it reversed into the police car to disable it. The police car was damaged at the front, with the other vehicle involved suffered damage to its rear.

However, police say that tactic failed and, instead, they were able to disable the Mercedes. A man was later taken into custody on suspicion of dangerous driving.
